You came to the wrong place for anyone to think that goal is absurd haha. I wish you nothing but luck in your endeavor.

Whole lotta good luch with alllll that UC. I would just rely on the chronologically ordered, digitized route. But, that is just me. Luckily, you got LIA in your corner.
Who could ask for anything more :)

I would like to get a lid myself I might add~~~~~I might.

Good luck again. 17,000 songs on tapes? whew...

edit~ wouldnt let me respond to UC. Again (see other
pathetic post of mine, or dont. I suggest you dont). and....

HI JOTS!!!!!! Hows the summer in AK?

On tape? Good lord, man, do I look crazy? These are not on tape - they're digitized. I have a small handful of tapes that I've digitized, as well as my few vinyls, almost exclusively the live stuff.

I have a tumblr up somewhere that lists all of the shows, but I keep adding to the pile, so...

"I have a handful of songs that I can identify only in terms of title, not venue or date. They're all live, mostly on mislabeled tapes (one tape said 5/10/69, but none of the songs I have show up in any set lists, so who knows)."

Thats what threw me off I guess. Thank goodness you're
not crazy. That makes one of us...

I guess the 'handful of songs' are on tapes.
The rest is digi ~ Gotcha.

Sound like you are in the mix. And as i said before,
lia IS the ultimate reference man, as you know. So,
good luck, sounds like you are on your way :)

Keep adding to the pile!
(oh, dig your handle btw)

now about that lid.......

I have a 1 TB external that's about 40% full, mostly tunes, and I just acquired a 1.5 TB external as well. Gonna put the ZIP/TAR archival files on one and the extracted mp3 files on the other. Boom, backup time.

The database includes the following:

Pre-Dead (Black Mountain Boys, Mother McCree, The Slugs, Jerry and Sara, 62-64)
Live Dead songs from 65-95
Side projects (B/Midnites, JGB, JGAB, Ratdog)
Post-Dead (TOO, The Dead, Furthur - but just shows I've personally attended, 00-present)

Filtering out the non-Dead stuff and then further filtering out the non-SONG stuff (i.e., banter, tuning, intros, fade ins, set breaks, crowd noise, and so on), I wind up with a good 17K live Dead tracks.

It's fun because it allows me to indulge in two fun things (for me) - listening to the Dead and organizing/collecting it all.

Cheers!
